Voyages with "Dock" Cousteau Skin Explorer

Welcome fellow explorers. Hidden amongst the sea of 4600+ ObjectDock icons, is a small, around 200, but steadily growing number of dock backgrounds. ObjectDock backgrounds provide the subtle environment for your docks. There are many treasures for the explorer to find here, that will make your use of ObjectDock or ObjectDock Plus much more enjoyable.

In the beginning there was only the zoomer dock, a solitary creature that resided on one of the four edges of your desktop. One of the first backgrounds to emerge from the depths of the torrent seas was striped style dock by sfl an OS X styled dock.

You can see the alluring beauty of that a dock can add to your desktop from even this simple background.

One of the most popular zoomer dock backgrounds is DogmaX by brewman.

One of my favorites is Crystal trays by Diafragma.

Dock icons resting on a glass shelf is a great effect.

Last year, Stardock introduced ObjectDock Plus and with it came the ability not only have as many docks as you wanted, but also the wonderful concept of tabbed docks was brought to our desktop making this one of the most useful programs you can get.

Here's a port I did of adni18's AlphaOS. AlphaOS Tabs

This is one of the latest tabbed backgrounds Xenon Tabs Black by TN Brat!

She creates some pretty great backgrounds you don't want to miss.

Well explorers that ends our brief adventure into the murky depths of the ObjectDock library, in search of dock backgrounds. Use this Link to go directly to the zoomer dock backgrounds section and this Link to go directly to the tabbed dock backgrounds section. Signing off for now "Dock" Cousteau, Skin Explorer

Great article essencay. I think I am about to jump into the realm of making OD backgrounds. I have been making enough icons for it, time to take another step.

LordConeneo....No idea on the wallpaper....the screenshot is Diafragma's. Might try asking in the comment section of his background.

on Jan 24, 2005
PeanutMan....Uploads for OD and ODPlus backgrounds go to ObjectDock Library. There are many subcategories, including one for tabbed docks and one for docks.

Thanks Essencay for the mention and maybe you can dig out some other lost goodies from other applications as well...

I would just like to take this moment to mention again Essencay's suggestion of having dock backgrounds separate from icons (BlueDev grumbles as a background he uploaded Monday and just got approved minutes ago is now buried under 20 or so new icons, soon to slip from the first page with nary a notice).

Ya know, I upload dock backgrounds all the time...and have only just started uploading th icons and it doesn't bother me that they get "burried". As far as I'm concerned, if someone is looking specifically for a background, then they'll narrow the Object Dock catagory to just the backgrounds. It seems a little vain to be worried about the backs slipping away without notice...I don't know, I just don't see what the big deal is it's not like we lose anything but maybe a little "praise" from our peers, but if someone wants backs, they'll find them and that's good enough for me. After all I make the backs for myself to start and I'm not going to get paid for them no matter where they are in the library...so if they get noticed and people like them, then great, and if they don't get noticed....well that's just the way it goes.
